I think I might have caught something!
Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) are very common.
They are passed on through vaginal, anal and oral sex with someone who is already infected.
If you have had sex without a condom and think you may have picked up an STI it is important to get tested and treated even if you have no symptoms.
Most STIs are easily treated at your local sexual health clinic or GUM (genitor-urinary medicine) clinic.
GUM clinics offer advice, testing and treatment for all STIs.
Whilst there is no cure for HIV, GUM clinics can offer testing, advice, and treatments which delay AIDS developing.
Although most STIs have no clear symptoms, some do and warning signs might be:
- Pain when you pee
- Unusual discharge from your vagina or penis
- Rashes or sore around your vagina or penis
Fact: The highest rates of gonorrhoea are seen in women aged 16-19 and in men aged 20-24 years.
