Didn't use a condom? Condom split? Forgot to take your pill? Worried that you / your girlfriend might be pregnant?

If you have forgotten to take your pill but have not had sex since, click here for more information about what you should do.

Don't panic ... if you have had sex without contraception or you think the contraception might have failed, it is still possible to prevent a pregnancy.

Within the first 3 days ... take a pill known as Emergency Contraception, within 72 hours (this is sometimes known as the morning after pill but it will actually work up to 3 days after having unprotected sex. However, the sooner you take this the better).

After 3 days, but before 5 days ... you can have a coil fitted.

After 5 days ... it is important that you get a pregnancy test as soon as possible.

You do not need to cope with an unplanned pregnancy on your own.

If the pregnancy test is negative or you have managed to have emergency contraception in time, this is a good time to think about your future contraception choices. Condoms are free from various places to young people in this area using a C Card.

If you have had sex without a condom, you may have a Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI). Some STIs have no symptoms so it is important that you are tested.

Remember ... you should never feel pressured into having sex. It should be a decision that both you and your partner make together. It is illegal to have sex if you are under 16. Health professionals can provide confidential sexual health information, advice and contraception to you whatever your age if have decided to have sex.
